Foolscap Studios has created an elegantly Australian interior to showcase René Redzepi’s spectacular dining experience. Noma’s much anticipated and sold-out pop-up restaurant at Barangaroo Sydney is officially open and guests have had the opportunity to experience not only a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience but in a beautiful setting.

Commissioned by Lendlease to design an interior that might match the expectations around the food experience, Foolscap Studios have fitted the 500 square metre space, on the ground level of Barangaroo’s Andara building, with an interior that’s every part Australian as it is Danish.

Two native Australian Xanthorrhoea trees grow through red earth floors while more native flowers sit on tables alongside handmade ceramics and woven pieces by indigenous artisans.
Elements reminiscent of Noma’s original restaurant in Copenhagenalso feature in the space, such as the Carl Hansen timber chairs and tables with animal hides hanging over the backs of the seating.

The state of the art kitchen is open to allow guests a view of the mastery taking place. Head chef René Redzepi said that the Noma team has felt at home from day one.“Being at Barangaroo has reminded me of Noma in Copenhagen, in terms of being on the harbour and the proximity to the water. I’m very happy with the fit out, it’s very different from our space in Copenhagen, yet it has our DNA in it. In collaboration with our partners we’ve succeeded in getting a distinct Australian-ness embedded into the walls.”
